Lunchtrays and Goldfish

With mismatched uniforms, improvised marching maneuvers, speaker helmets and deconstructed cheer-leading, Mucca Pazza trail-blazed the 'weird as we wanna be' theatrical and visual aesthetic, while exhibiting real musical talent, playing mostly through-composed original compositions that tend to land somewhere between Zappa and Morricone. Atonal harmonies, odd time signatures and labyrinthine melodies are as likely to pop up as sweet brass chords, catchy whistlers and solid grooves.

After years of bringing the party to summer festivals through musical spectacle, Mucca Pazza sat itself down one winter at a local brew pub to raise the musical bar while raising a glass. Compositions from that residency compose Mucca Pazza's fourth record, L.Y.A..
Songs like '...All Out of Bubblegum', 'J'Accuse' and 'Holiday on Ice' are classic Mucca Pazza taken further - hairpin stylistic turns, frenetic noise, and serpentine melodies while 'Bedtime for Bonzos', 'Subtle Frenzy' and 'Lunchtrays and Goldfish' expand the band's musicality into lush, tuneful orchestrations while maintaining their trademark quirkiness.

about

Based on a baseline I was hearing as I rode my bike as I finished composing the piece the timing was such that I spoke with one of dave smith's high school friends who told me that when he was in high school he would sometimes punch out the middle of lunch tray and wear it like a necklace and were he might show up to school with ziplock bag with carrots and water exclaiming that these were as pet goldfish hence the name and goldfish

about

Mucca Pazza Chicago, Illinois

Mucca Pazza is the marching band that thinks it’s a rock ’n roll band. Their music skips from genre to unnameable genre, never settling in one place for long, but held together by the band's unmistakable sound and irresistible energy.
